Sydney Theatre School as part of Sydney Fringe 2013 presents

THE UNFOLDING WONDER

A world-premiere production devised by first year Advanced Diploma of Arts (Acting) students at Sydney Theatre School. This is a tale of a city not unlike the one you live in. About a boy called Rodney who’s favourite place is the bus stop, his mother and a woman who cannot get out of bed. This is about not having the right answers; about losing things and finding them again; and about the fact that something is oh-so-the-matter with Bruno.

DAY 3 – Certificate in Screen Acting

DAY 3 – Certificate in Screen Acting

mon•o•logue
[mon-uh-lawg, -log]

noun
1. a form of dramatic entertainment, comedic solo, or the like by a single speaker: a comedian’s monologue.
2. a prolonged talk or discourse by a single speaker, especially one dominating or monopolizing a conversation.
3. any composition, as a poem, in which a single person speaks alone.
4. a part of a drama in which a single actor speaks alone; soliloquy.

Last night students took on a massive challenge of preparing a monologue which several delivered to camera. What we discovered is that it’s easy to “just” learn lines and say them and the hope that we’ll be believable. Unfortunately camera doesn’t lie; it is designed to simply register what is in front of it. So if you are performing a scene to the camera and are not 100% committed to it not only do you feel it’s not working but the camera will play back the image and audio of someone who is not 100% committed. With the use of various exercises and theory based techniques students managed to visually see the differences between “acting” out a scene – encountering “the real” in a scene. — at Sydney Theatre School.
