Sydney Theatre School – Advanced Diploma of Arts (Acting)

Graduating Company 2018

Written by: Caryl Churchill

Directed by: Clara Voda

Caryl Churchill’s play is a response to events in Romania following the overthrow of Nicolae Ceaușescu in December 1989. It presents a kaleidoscopic and often surreal look at life under oppression and the painful difficulties of lasting change.

In early 1990, Caryl Churchill was asked by the director of the Central School of Speech and Drama, if she would like to join his students on a trip to Bucharest, Romania to work with students there to write a play for his students’ end of year show.

One of those Romanian students (Clara Voda) is also the director of this production.
